400 send message to the Capitol:

"Yes, there really is a better way"
Four hundred parents, students, educators, and school board
members came to Greenfield High School yesterday to tell Governor
Scott Walker — in his own backyard — that slashing
public school revenue and taking opportunities away from young
people is no way to handle the State's budget problem.
The message— loud and clear — was that there
is a better way.
This event, sponsored by WAES and other groups, brought together
folks from 25 school districts from Paris to Milwaukee and
from Wauwatosa to Franklin. It wasn't a rally and there were
only a handful of signs. There wasn't even much talk about
labor rights. The March 5 event, more than anything, was a
serious strategy session about "next steps." People
talked about how citizens can work with their Governor and
their legislators to make sure Wisconsin makes an adequate
investment in our children and the future of our communities.
The tone of the 400 in the room wasn't about begging State
Government for something. It was about demanding officials
do the job they were elected to do.

The whole point of the meeting in Greenfield — and
for meetings that will be held, hopefully, around the state
— is to figure out what to do next in order to stop
the devastating cuts to school aid. Click here to find the

array of tools and materials to help you plan and carry out
effective events.
