Ask non-signers
if they have an option
While not signing onto the Pope-Roberts/Breske joint resolution
to change Wisconsin’s school-funding system doesn’t
mean your legislator is against reform, it does mean he or
she didn’t take this opportunity to push the issue forward.
Listed below are those legislators who didn’t sign
onto the joint resolution. Go to http://waml.legis.state.wi.us/
and find out who represents you. Then, check below and see
if your Senator or Representative is on the list.
If he or she is there, you might want to contact him or her
and ask why. You also might want to ask the following question:
“If the resolution doesn’t do anything, what would
you do?”
And remember, it’s always good to be prepared to the
objections you know will come:

School-funding reform is too important to
be put under a deadline. Over the last decade,
more and more Wisconsin schools have been put into fiscal
and educational crises by the school-funding system. It
is about time that legislators be put under a deadline
to solve a problem they created.

The resolution doesn’t solve the problem
… it just demands a change. The resolution
does, indeed, lay out a set of principles that describe
a new system school-funding system. We can’t solve
the problem. Only legislators can solve the problem and
this resolution says we are willing to work with them.
Furthermore, if your legislator doesn’t like the
resolution, what is he or she doing about this very serious
problem?
