Introduction
Youth Reclaiming Our Communities — ROC
is a statewide program for high school students who are committed
to building a statewide youth movement around access to a
quality education.
Our goal is to ensure that all students in Wisconsin attend
schools that are adequately funded, have highly qualified
and committed teachers, have more honors, specialty and AP
classes, and that teach ethnic studies, college and career
preparation, and all forms of creative arts.
We believe that the only way to achieve our goal is to reform
the way Wisconsin funds its public schools.
The What's Going Down in our Schools
workshop is a for youth, by youth workshop. It provides an
overview of the state's school funding challenge and an alternative
method to guarantee educational opportunities for all children
from the perspectives of high school students. This workshop
also challenges young people to think about the way they experience
their education and provides them with opportunities to get
actively involved in school funding issues.
Why Youth ROC?
Youth ROC
is a member of the Wisconsin
Alliance for Excellent Schools, a diverse, statewide
coalition of nearly 80 organizations working toward comprehensive
school-funding reform.
Access to a quality education is a fundamental right. We believe
that youth have the most to lose when schools aren't working
right and the most to gain when they are. Therefore, youth
must be educated and engaged in education and school funding

We are working to reform Wisconsin's school-funding formula
to a system based on providing adequate resources to all children
so that no matter what their special needs or where they live,
they have the opportunity to succeed.
